Rhubarb and Custard – as a Cocktail?
Inspired by his favourite childhood puddings and Dorset’s fantastic food and drink, Bridport mixologist Lloyd Brown has come up with a unique cocktail recipe to be served at the forthcoming Dorset Knob Throwing Festival – a Rhubarb and Custard Cocktail, with a Dorset Knob crumble topping.
Lloyd said, ‘As a child I loved rhubarb and custard, and I loved crumbles, and I thought it would be great fun to make a cocktail that combined these. The Dorset Knob Throwing Festival is a really quirky and eccentric event, where you can spend the day playing silly games and enjoying all the best things about Dorset, while raising money for a good cause. We wanted our cocktail to fit in with that spirit of childhood fun!’
The Dorset Knob Throwing Festival is being held at Kingston Maurward House this year (after it outgrow its previous home at Cattistock) on Sunday 30 April. It features games such as Knob Throwing, Pin the Knob on the Cerne Giant, Knob or no Knob, as well as craft stalls, live music, and a wide selection of Dorset food and drinks producers.
One of the many local stallholders is Liberty Fields, whose Porter’s Perfection Vodka, made from the apples grown in their own orchards, is the main ingredient in the Dorset Knob Cocktail. Vicky Morland of Liberty Fields said, ‘Lloyd is becoming famous in Dorset for creating quirky and delicious cocktails using local drinks and ingredients! The Dorset Knob cocktail is one of his most intriguing recipes – it’s a grownup version of pudding and we love the twist that Porter’s Perfection Vodka gives it’.
The Dorset Knob Cocktail will only be available at the Dorset Knob Throwing Festival on Sunday 30 April, so if you want to relive your childhood in a grownup way, come to the Liberty Fields stand in the Food & Drink marquee at Kingston Maurward to try it!
